Showers for the Shelterless 
After a long day at work, you look forward to heading home, enjoying a hot shower, eating a home cooked meal and sleeping in your own bed. In this city of great affluence, there are those who fall through the cracks and do not even have these simple needs in life.
Grace Vancouver Westside’s affluent neighbourhood of Fairview Slopes is home to 70 homeless people, many who are seeking distance from the drugs and alcohol rampant in the Downtown Eastside. Each week, our homeless and low income friends come to Showers for the Shelterless for simple things we take for granted – a coffee and healthy breakfast, a hot shower and clean clothes, and friendship in a warm, welcoming environment.
Through this program offered in partnership with Kitsilano Community Centre and St. Augustine’s Church, some participants have moved from living on the streets to housing. Others have reconnected with their families for the first time in years. All receive warmth and acceptance.
Learn about human dignity, simplicity and frugality by developing friendships with our friends from Showers for the Shelterless. When one of our homeless friends comes into the community at Grace Vancouver, welcome and care for them; see what you may learn from them.
A coordinator for volunteers from Grace Vancouver is needed for this ministry and volunteers for the Saturday morning drop in at Kits Community Centre are needed.
